Corner Cafés

Cafés on all three corners at an intersection in Freidrichshain.  Sadly, no fourth café behind me.

To the right is Café Datscha or Datscha Café-Bar, an unbelievable little eatery that my mom told me I had to go to while in Berlin.  As usual, I took my mom’s advice and finally ventured out to find the place with just a couple more days left in Germany.  I was so thankful I made the effort and got myself over there.

It was mid-afternoon when I left my hotel and the commute wasn’t bad at all.  This little excursion was one of only a few that I actually got to make while I was in Berlin.  Most of my days and nights were spent at the stadium, so an outing like this one was a refreshing change of pace.  It’s truly awesome when you can muster up the nerve to step out into a massive city you don’t know, fly solo in what you think is the right direction, and arrive at your intended destination to find that it lives up to all of the hype.  The sun was out, the breeze was light, the neighborhood was quiet, and the food was superb.

Datscha serves a Russian menu for breakfast and lunch, as well as a stellar brunch on Sundays.  Photos to come.  I don’t think they illustrate the experience as well as it deserves but just know that it was fantastic.  Even with the occasional onslaught of second-hand smoke.  It’s Europe after all.

Obviously, I highly encourage you to go as well if you ever find yourself in Berlin.
